Pyrography

Writing with fire, from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing). It can be practiced using specialized modern pyrography tools, or using a metal implement heated in a fire, sunlight concentrated with a magnifying lens and gun powder. Pyrography dates back to the 17th century.

Wood B. Designs offers fine art, crafts and functional wood burned items,
which make a unique gift for any occasion.
Custom orders can make it even more special and personalized.
Prices start at $12 for wooden spoons, Most plaques are $15 – $45, Fine art starts at $60 and up.

Types of wood used:
Birch, Poplar, Maple and Basswood.
Other woods can be a challenge to work
on or highly toxic to burn.
Color can be added to a piece using color pencil and/or watercolor.

Wood Burnings don’t like the sun!
Depending on how intense the burn, delicate tones will fade. I have tested many UV protecting clear coats with the same result. This is why I do not advise wood burned signs.

Spoons - Food Safe

Wooden spoons are food safe if you choose to use them for cooking. Recommended cleaning is to wash immediately after use with warm soapy water by hand. I do not suggest putting in the a dish washer or letting the spoon soak.

One year of using a wood burned spoon.

Custom Orders

All custom orders are considered.  Because certain woods do not take well to wood burning I can not always use wood provided by the customer. Riffle stocks that are older must be well sanded by the customer.  This is true for any pre-owned item.  Prices vary and I am willing to work within a persons budget.

For the past several years WBD has teamed up with a member of the Maine Greyhound Placement Service, holding online auctions to raise money for Greyhound care and needs. The primary product has been spoons and some have auctioned for as high as $200. A great deal of funding has been achieved to cover medical expenses.

Spoons and other items make great promotional material, gifts and auction items. Please contact me for whole sale prices if you are purchasing for a non-profit organisation.
